More people are asking how to homeschool more than ever before! Homeschooling has been on a continuous increase in recent years, and now many who have never considered it are finding themselves asking questions and looking for Answers for Homeschooling.

A few months ago, I purchased Answers for Homeschooling in hopes to share it with a few friends who may be considering homeschooling while the entire country was closed for COVID-19. It’s no secret that I’m an advocate for homeschooling, and am glad people were able to give it a “trial run” . My hope is that others would fall in love with homeschooling as I have. I was not surprised that most people actually enjoyed the extra time with their kids. Several families experienced success in “homeschooling” with no preparation. Others flat out said it was a nightmare.
Well, here we are, a month before most schools start. The options and regulations are less than desirable or doable for many. Split schedules, social distancing, temperature checks, and masks are all very, very far from what parents want, or what children need. It’s time to get some questions and answers for those contemplating how to homeschool!
Get your questions answered
In Answers for Homeschooling, Israel Wayne addresses the top 25 questions critics ask when it comes to homeschooling. Find the answers to questions such as legalities, affordability, socialization, teaching multiple grades, and so much more in a clear, concise, Christ-centered way. I consider myself a “seasoned homeschooler”, but it doesn’t come close to the experience and knowledge that the author, Israel Wayne holds. He was homeschooled when it was socially unacceptable and against the law! Mr. Wayne has spoken at hundreds of conferences, is an author, columnist, and a homeschooling father of nine. He’s certainly a fantastic source of information. He’s also a normal family man with struggles and successes, much like many of us.
Homeschooling questions
Socialization, sheltering, and ‘salt and light’ have always been some of the questions that I have encountered. Now it’s nearing the fall of 2020, and homeschooling is on the radar of many, not just the curious or naysayers. Finally, people are asking questions that really matter! Although it was written a couple of years ago, Answers for Homeschooling is the go-to book for the questions that people are asking today. Let’s take a look at a few of them:
- Are you qualified to teach your child?
- How can you afford to homeschool?
- Is that how it’s done in public school?
- Can every family homeschool?
- What about public school at home?
- How can you teach multiple grades?
- What about high school?
- How can you find time for everything?
I’d encourage you read the book yourself, but I will give you a sneak peak at the answers to a few of the above questions.
- Are you qualified to teach your child? The essentials of teaching are: teach them how to read, how to think and reason, and teach them how to study and learn. Mr. Wayne’s mother said, “If you know how to read, how to reason, and how to find the information you need, then you can teach yourself anything you need to know in life.” What makes a good teacher is not being an expert at everything. You have the opportunity to learn alongside your child, and no one knows your child or cares about them more than you.
- Public school at home? Why would you choose government dependency and control over freedom? With the model of public school at home, you are still under the state’s requirements and regulations. I’m not even going to mention the propaganda promoted in government run education. Remember that? I would highly recommend checking out The IndoctriNation Movie.
- How can you teach multiple grades? It’s not teaching each child every single subject, and repeating this for each child. When out of a formal classroom setting, multiple ages can learn together, even when toddlers and children with special needs are in the family, and Mr. Wayne tells you how.
- How can you find time for everything? Finding time for everything is a family effort. Mr. Wayne’s wife, Brook, wrote this chapter and provides wonderful tips.
I have so many underlines, circles, and highlights in this book that it is beginning to look like a coloring book! Although we are well in to our homeschooling journey, I am now more aware of things I did not know, and am able to more confidently answer some of the questions about homeschooling that others ask. Whether you are just beginning, or have been at it a while, this book is for you!
