What We’re Using for 12th Grade Curriculum

It’s true that education isn’t something you can finish; however, this is the last year I get the fun job and honor of choosing what my own kid will be learning in our homeschool. I don’t know if I’m ready for this, but I might as well be! So, without further ado, here are our homeschool curriculum choices for 12th grade! (I’ll save my mini soapbox speech for the end.)

Eleventh Grade Homeschool Curriculum

And then there was one. This is the first year in a very long time, that I will be homeschooling only one child. It’s kind of odd, really. What’s even more odd is that I’m using nothing that I used for my daughter when she was in eleventh grade, just two short years ago. How we homeschool this year will be different, but I think the timing is perfect for something new!

Homeschool Curriculum Update

We’ve all heard the adage – the days are long, but the years are short, but guess what else? The years are even shorter when you have two kids in high school. It is hard to fathom that after 13 years of homeschooling, my first born will be finished with this chapter in a matter of months. Months. I’m not kidding when I say it seems like yesterday I was wondering if she’d ever learn to tie her shoes. One word of wisdom I can give you – persevere. It’s a million times worth it.

12th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices 2021-2022

Can I just say that I am not as excited about this as I should be? My first born, my helper, my sidekick is in 12th grade! She has been with me on this crazy experiment called homeschooling since the very beginning. Curriculum changes, schedule changes, bad days, as well as the very best days, she’s been a part of it all. Now here we are, revealing our curriculum choices for 12th grade. In approximately 180 days, it will be over. Somebody get me a Kleenex!

10th Grade Homeschool Curriculum 2021-2022

How is it that I am posting curriculum choices for our youngest child entering 10th grade? These high school years are going by way to fast for me! This kid would rather work and move on with his life, but we gotta do what we gotta do! So, with that in mind, I will allow much of his work to be done independently, with frequent check ups from me. He enjoys working with his dad in his small business. When his help is needed, I’m willing to let him adjust his own schedule to allow for those opportunities.

Curriculum Update – Mid-Year Check In

Every year after the holidays, I evaluate how things are going with our curriculum. With half the year complete, I am happy to say nothing has been a disaster! There are just a couple of small changes I made recently at the start of our second semester.

Before I give you a run-down of what’s working well, and the tweaks we have made, just remember one thing: if something is not working for you or your child, CHANGE IT! There is no need for you or your child to be miserable in their homeschool experience. What worked well for one, may not work as well for the next child. Many of you well know that it’s rare to find kids who learn the same way, even if they are siblings!

Ninth Grade Homeschool Curriculum 2020-2021

Planning the first year of high school is easier the second time around. The obvious reason is that I’ve done it before. The second reason is with each passing year, I’ve gained more confidence. Truth be told, I would even say that homeschooling high school has been easier than homeschooling the lower grades. By now, much of their work is independent. There are only a few classes I “teach”. Thanks to online learning, and their ability to read and understand instructions themselves, I just have to make sure the work is complete. The bigger job now is being the positive motivator they need.

Master Books General Science 1 Review

There are so many things I like about this General Science curriculum from Master Books! Find out how our family used this for the first time.

Let me start off by saying that science has always been my favorite subject to learn, as well as teach. There are several things I look for when choosing a science curriculum. Bible-based, engaging, well-laid out for the student and teacher, and hands-on activities are the main things I look for. General Science 1: Survey of Earth and Sky fit the bill. I used it with my eighth grade son for our 2019-2020 school year.
