Drive Thru History® Adventures Review

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

Anytime we get a chance to check out something from Drive Thru History® Adventures, we know we’re in for a real treat! I was excited to receive early access to a brand new course, Bible Unearthed, to review.

What is Bible Unearthed?

Bible Unearthed is a new 12-week course from Drive Thru History® Adventures that explores the ancient world through archaeology in the Holy Land. Dave Stotts, the fantastic host of Drive Thru History, introduces us to a couple of his friends in Bible Unearthed. Expert archaeologist Titus Kennedy, PhD. as well as Drive Thru History writer, Randall Niles are part of this series. Together, they guide us through an adventure into the world of archaeology.

What’s “An Adventure” like?

Bible Unearthed is an online course that digs into the ancient history of the Bible. The course is self paced, but is designed to complete one “adventure” each week. The course is flexible as to whichever parts you choose to do. On a typical adventure, the student watches an approximately 15 minute video, and reads additional materials for further information. Five discussion questions are given with an answer guide, a scripture reading, as well links to even more “digging deeper” articles. Last, there are several hands-on projects to enhance the things presented in the videos and articles.

The Weekly Schedule is a great way to plan, and get the most out of the course.

The 12 episodes cover the following topics:

  • What is Archaeology?
  • The Impact of Archaeology
  • Locating Archaeological Sites
  • The Life of an Archaeologist
  • What’s Being Discovered Today?
  • Archaeological Mysteries
  • Top Discoveries in Bible Archaeology
  • Getting Involved With Archaeology
  • Trends In Archaeology
  • Weird Archaeology
  • Accidental Discoveries in Archaeology
  • What’s Left To Be Discovered?
A peek at what you will see in the videos

The videos are well produced, and have a different format than what you may be familiar with if you’ve seen many videos from the popular Drive Thru History series. Instead, Dr. Kennedy takes the main stage as he, Mr. Niles, and Mr. Stotts sit around a table discussing archaeology. Although it is not as fast paced as Dave speeding through town in his Jeep, it is still interesting nonetheless. The conversational style of the videos are relaxed, and you feel like you are part of the conversation. The slides, artifacts, tools, video clips, and of course Dave’s antics keep things interesting. Oops, did I see Dave just drop something?

How we used Bible Unearthed

My son and I enjoyed the videos and the discussion questions together for this review period. We decided to view two to three videos each week, and answer the corresponding questions. The versatility of the course gave me a few potential ideas as we reviewed the material.

The dashboard is simple to navigate, and I love how it is organized. The 12 videos are checked off as they are completed, and you simply move on to the next one. The downloadable printables are easy to find within each lesson. There is also a status bar that shows your progress in the course.

What did we really think?

I highly recommend this course for anyone that has an interest in archaeology, or a middle/high school student as an elective or Biblical History course. It is a fascinating look at archaeology with a Biblical worldview. These three men highlight and showcase how dates, objects, places, and more line right up with what’s in God’s preserved Word. In the episodes I viewed, the reliability of the Bible is well presented.

My almost 15 year old son enjoyed the videos. He said that archaeology wasn’t really his thing, but these videos made it more interesting than he thought it would be.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
