How does No Housework Day sound to you? Are you into Shakespeare? Do you wear your pajamas to work? Planning a trip to the zoo? Find out about many of the National Holidays when you Celebrate Every Day! Oh, about those pajamas……..I’m skipping out on that one!
We are “hopping” right along through the calendar, aren’t we? I’m excited spring is finally here. Just yesterday, I blew my first dandelion of the year. Blowing dandelions always brings back simple childhood memories that will never fade. The nicer weather gives us a chance to get out and enjoy spring, even though we are still on restriction in my state. I had started a few “weekend wandering” in NC posts (pre-covid), so check them out! There are hidden gems all around, so get out and find them this spring!

Small celebrations last month
If you’ve been following this new series I started in January, you’re aware of my little calendar, and where the inspiration came from. While it’s impossible for me to celebrate all the days, we pick some fun things here and there for the month. In March, we celebrated Seuss with a guided drawing, had peanut butter and sloppy Joe’s for lunch (not together – different days), and made “pi-neapple” art for pi day. I also made Tar Heel Pie, and it was sloppy-scrumptious! I did my share of goofing off on National Goof Off Day. In fact, I stretched that one all week it seems. Oh, and we were entertained by a panda in our living room on Panda Day. Thank goodness I was able to keep him from the Ramen!
Ideas for April
Once you’ve printed out the free printable from the free resource library, it’s up to your family as to how to celebrate it. We don’t pre-plan much here. I tend to look at the week ahead, and either pick something for lunch if there’s a food related day, or find something to read about a famous birthday. I love to find something art related, even if it means just doing it myself. My teens aren’t always feeling the art thing like I do! Just keep if fun, and don’t burden yourself with all the “days” – they will be back on the calendar next year.
First on the agenda this month is celebrating April Fool’s Day. It’s always a day of lighthearted fun at our house. Two rules: Don’t mess with anyone’s food, or do anything to them while they are sleeping. In the past I have mismatched and tied shoes together, rubbed Vaseline on faucets, taped or drawn a spider on the toilet paper, among other harmless shenanigans.
Other fun things in April include Siblings Day, Unicorn Day, Super Hero Day, and one of my favorites, Jelly Bean Day. Maybe you will bust out the Scrabble game this month, or write some poetry. Personally, I’m looking forward to the 7th, which is No Housework Day! There are also many famous people in history with birthdays this month: Shakespeare, da Vinci, Wilbur Wright and more! (I’ve seen conflicting dates for Frederic Bartholdi, so rather than redoing my printable, we’ll just go with two birthdays for now). However or whomever you choose to celebrate, have fun learning something new!
I can’t leave you with just this list of fun things to celebrate, without mentioning the celebration in my life: The fact that He Is Risen! If you are unsure of what that is, read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, and simply believe it. That’s it.
I also highly recommend Dave Stott’s Drive Thru History for an in depth look at the story of Jesus Christ’s trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. The videos and teaching resources are free, and you can find them here.
I look forward to sharing these quirky holidays with you each month this year. Be sure to keep an eye on my Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest pages as well as MeWe. I try to keep things varied, and that is where I will post links and activities on some of the days to celebrate. I’d love to hear how you’re celebrating through April! Post a pic, and be sure to tag me @homeschoolfanatic, or use the hashtag #celebratesomething. If you are a blogger, and have a great post about activities that are a good match for these days to celebrate, I’d love to share share your post, so drop me a link! Happy APRIL Celebrating!
