Brain Blox Wooden Building Planks Review

Do teens still play with blocks? It has been a while since my two have actually sat down and made something with blocks. I’ve noticed they do still stack the little butter and jelly tubs at restaurants to pass the time, so I thought I’d give Brain Blox Wooden Building Planks from Brain Blox a try! I hoped it would be fun for them, and bring back a little nostalgia for me to the days when there were blocks strewn about the house.

Fun Family Chess Review

I have never played Chess in my life, but have been curious for a few years now. I love incorporating games in our learning, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to review Fun Family Chess from Brain Blox.  What’s really neat is that my kids have never played either, so we started out on a level playing field.

Easy Grammar Systems Review

If you’re looking for a grammar program that is to the point and free of distractions or many extras, you are at the right place! I first saw this at a homeschool convention, and it has been on my list to check out for about a year now. Nearing the end of summer, I was looking at several options for teaching grammar. I was excited to have the opportunity to review Easy Grammar Plus from  Easy Grammar Systems to use with my “get it done” son.

CTCMath Review

Review a math program in the summer? The mention of math is normally a forbidden four-letter word around here, especially during the summer! After a less than spectacular year with our first year of high school math, an opportunity arose to review a 12-month Family Membership from CTCMath. Honestly, the timing could not have been better!

Lightning Literature Set (Grade 7) Review

Literature study has been something that I have struggled with in our homeschool. My goal is for my reluctant readers to find reading something to be enjoyed naturally, and to be able to recognize and appreciate quality literature. Hewitt Homeschooling Resources has been on my radar for several months now. I was excited to have the opportunity to review the  Gr 7 Lightning Lit Set for my son, and my older daughter joined us.

Life With Dog Movie Review

Often times, the timing is just perfect for a review. We were on our last week of school, all but a few lessons were complete, and we were experiencing our first heat wave here in coastal Carolina. Mill Creek Entertainment sent us the movie Life With Dog to watch and review at the perfect time! My teens we more than happy to have popcorn and watch a movie as part of their school day!

The Critical Thinking Co. Middle School Math Games Review

I love teaching with games! Not only are they fun, they break up the monotony of textbooks and add what I like to call, “learning with glitter”. I was excited to have the opportunity to review Middle School Math Games  from The Critical Thinking Co. I have used some things from The Critical Thinking Co. before, and their material can offer a bit of a challenge for the average student. My ninth grader, who finds math a struggle at times, was who I had in mind to try this product with.

Study.com Review

The mission of Study.com is making education accessible, anytime, anywhere. I received a trial subscription to Study.com to check out their CLEP and DSST prep materials. We are just in the beginning stages of our high school journey, so I was unfamiliar with CLEP and DSST. If this is new territory to you too, the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests that evaluates college-level knowledge. Administered by the College Board, the goal is to help students earn college credit without taking college courses.

DSST are credit-by-examination tests originated by the United States Department of Defense’s Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support program. (Formally known as DANTES). In 2004, these tests were made available to the general public and now serve as another way for self-motivated, goal-oriented college students to pick up speed as they race toward the finish line.

Stopmotion Explosion Review

I’m always looking for something fun to add to our homeschooling experience, whether it be cool art supplies, a new game, or a microscope. I wonder how I have been homeschooling for 10 years, and we have never tried anything with animation? When I saw we had an opportunity to review a  Stop Motion Animation Kit from Stopmotion Explosion, I was eager to try something totally new to us! I am at the point in my life where both my kids surpass me when it comes to technology. When our animation kit arrived, and all I really had to do was check the box to ensure everything was there, and say “have at it”!
