Something to Celebrate

Something to Celebrate in June

It’s Summer, Summer, Summertime! (Now go back and sing it – Will Smith style!) I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to switching gears from school to projects I’ve been putting off, books I’ve been wanting to read, and a summer bucket list to tackle! I usually start out with a bright, positive outlook on all the things I will have time for, but find it challenging to keep the momentum. Perhaps I’ll do better this year! June is shaping up to be full of fun days to Celebrate Every Day!

As I was going through the special days for June, I noticed the folks at National Day Calendar have a quirky sense of humor. For instance, Rocky Road (ice cream) Day and Running Day happen to be on the same day! Eat Your Vegetables Day is the day after Fudge Day, and Black Bear Day falls on the same day as Trails day! Crazy, huh? Stay tuned, because there are many more to keep things exciting this summer!

Small celebrations last month

With May being a busy school month, it was always a treat to look over at the calendar to see what the special day was, whether we did anything for it or not. It seems like we (or I) gravitated towards the days having something to do with food. Favorite Beverage day, BBQ day, Shrimp day, and Taffy Day were all celebrated here! While the kids were taking their annual standardized tests, I enjoyed passing the time folding and flying paper airplanes. Paper planes are fun no matter your age! For scavenger hunt day, I used this idea a final project for American History class. The kiddos did a fantastic job, had fun, and learned quite a bit of history.

Ideas for June

Bare feet or flip flops? There are days to celebrate them both this month! Do people even have pen pals anymore? If so, there’s a day for that too. Not exactly a pen pal per say, but I highly recommend Letters From Afar. I wrote a review recently, that will give you all the details. Summertime would be a great time to get a subscription. Not only is it fun to receive mail, but the letters are great for sneaking in learning throughout the summer. While looking over the list, I noticed there was a veggie burger day this week. I have never had one, so this may be the day to give something new a try.

We are fortunate to live on the NC coast, and one of my favorite pastimes is collecting seashells. I need to find something to do with all the shells we have! Maybe I will find an art project to celebrate seashells later this month. A fairly new holiday is Summersgiving. That may be a fun tradition to start this year, because our family takes a vacation on the traditional Thanksgiving day. Speaking of that time of year, all you Christmas lovers will want to take a look at Leon day on the 25th! To celebrate dad, you may want to check out some fun craft ideas from The Secret Life of Homeschoolers.

June Birthdays

Don’t forget to take a look at some of the notable June birthdays. Tune into an Andy Griffith show, watch the Wizard of Oz on Judy Garland’s birthday, or take a step back in time to the 80’s with Back to the Future. My kids just watched the trilogy for the first time a couple of weeks ago! Tucked right in the middle of the month is my birthday. I sure do love birthdays (more than traditional holidays) because they truly are a celebration of YOU!
