June Holidays to Celebrate

It’s summer, summer, summer time! (Now go back and sing it – Will Smith style!) I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the vibes that summer brings, projects I’ve been putting off, books I’ve been wanting to read, topped of with heaps of fun! June is shaping up to be full of fun days to Celebrate Every Day! There’s such a variety of days to combat the “I’m bored” mumblings, as well as prevent the summer slide by combining learning with fun!

Below are a variety of ideas that compliment the list of June holidays to celebrate. Choose several or just one each week! They would be great to turn into a mini unit study for the summer, or to use in an activity jar. Be sure to download the free planning page for June halfway down my homepage! Cue the confetti, let’s go!

June Holidays – Week 1

  • 6/1 National Pen Pal Day – There’s something charmingly nostalgic about receiving a letter these days. I purchased a Letters From Afar subscription for my daughter a few years ago, and I loved them as much as she did! We enjoyed just reading them, as well as using them as a supplement in our homeschool. And the best part – you don’t have to write back!
  • 6/1 National Dinosaur Day – If you’re really into dinosaurs, Our Journey Westward has a huge post, More Than Just a Dinosaur Unit Study, that you will want to take a look at!
  • 6/3 National Egg Day – I love the new, “There’s Science In“….series. It’s perfect for curious elementary age kids who can use everyday objects for learning and fun. And yes, there’s an Egg one available! Balloons, Lemons, Milk, Paper, and Salt are also available in the series.
  • 6/5 National Hot Air Balloon Day – Summer is the perfect time to jump into a classic! Around the World in Eighty Days is a well-loved and admired classic. You could always watch the movie too, because National Movie Night is next week!
  • 6/6 National Yo-yo Day – an ancient toy with proof of existence since 440 BC! Summer is a great time to pull up YouTube or ask a grandpa to show you a few yo-yo tricks!
  • 6/7 National Trails Day – this could be almost everyday for me! Use this day to discover a new trail, or visit a familiar favorite in your town!

June Holidays – Week 2

  • 6/8 World Oceans Day – I am fortunate to live just an hour from the Atlantic ocean, and it is my favorite place to be! I stumbled across this fantastic resource while writing this post. It’s called Carolina Ocean Studies, and they have many learning programs in place for homeschool families (how I did not know about this, I don’t know, but I may see if I can tag along on one of their upcoming trips as a homeschool alumnus!) If you have plans to visit the beautiful Carolina coast, check it out! If you’re landlocked, then check out all the ocean resources at PaperPie. I’ve linked the search results, with books, games, and more!
  • 6/9 National Meal Prep Day – A big game changer for me in the kitchen over the past year has been Plan to Eat. Have you heard of it? It is simply amazing. It helps me stay organized by storing all my recipes, making my grocery lists, and planning ahead! Grab a free trial HERE and receive 20% off the subscription with my link if you find that you love it as much as I do!
  • 6/10 National Ballpoint Pen Day – “The ballpoint pen was the equivalent of today’s smartphone” – It’s true! Check out this article on the history of the ballpoint – you’ll never look at a cheap ballpoint the same way!
  • 6/13 National Movie Night – Have you ever thought of setting up your very own neighborhood movie night? It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. My friend over at Fields of Daisies has a terrific blog post on how to do it!
  • 6/14 National Flag Day – Did you know that there are 21 days from Flag Day to Independence Day? I didn’t either. Homegrown Learners has 21 fabulous ideas for celebrating the way too often overlooked holiday!

June Holidays – Week 3

  • 6/15 National Nature Photography Day – one of my favorite things to do happens to be on my birthday! Summer is the perfect time to practice those camera phone skills!
  • 6/15 National Megalodon Day – For a fun summer activity, make your own megalodon tooth! A field trip idea if you’re near eastern NC is to visit the Aurora Fossil Museum. It’s a hidden little gem in my area with a vast collection of shark’s teeth, and a place to dig for them yourself. The best part is it’s all free!
  • 6/16 World Sea Turtle Day – Another eastern NC treasure is the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle and Rescue Rehabilitation Center. (Ya’ll just need to plan your summer vacation here, I’d love to meet up for lunch!) This is a place I have not visited, as they were closed for quite some time during Covid. Just be sure to reserve a ticket before planning to go, as it is a popular place.
  • 6/17 National Eat Your Vegetables Day – what’s your favorite veggie? Today would be a great day to take your kids to a local farmer’s market and try something new!
  • 6/17 World Tessellation Day – Have you ever tried to tessellate? I’ve only used coloring books, but these animal templates look pretty cool for trying something new this summer!
  • 6/18 National Go Fishing Day – Never miss the opportunity to take a kid fishing! If you don’t have access (or a license) to fish, here’s an idea: cut out fish shapes from construction paper, put a paperclip on them, get a stick, tie a magnet to a string for the stick, and voila – you’re fishing! You can assign point values, or even write math problems or questions to review. It makes a fun DIY learning game.
  • 6/18 – International Picnic Day – It would be great to combine with National Go Fishing Day!
  • 6/20 International Tennis Day – My kids both learned the basics of tennis when we homeschooled. They had a fantastic coach, who said something that I never forgot. He said he enjoyed many sports, but really loved tennis, because it’s one of the only sports that you don’t need to form a team, and your age does not limit you like other sports – especially when you do get older. It made complete sense, and has stuck with me for years.
  • 6/20 Summer Solstice – The longest day of the year occurs on Friday, Jun 20, 2025, at 10:41 PM.

June Holidays – Week 4

  • 6/21 World Music Day – Summer is a fantastic time for music! Car rides, concerts, and festivals abound with melodies! It’s also a great time to learn something new, or set a goal to practice your instrument more. I saw an idea from another homeschool family who used a music jar. They simply wrote down 52 musicians on strips of paper, put them in a jar, and pulled one each week to listen to while doing chores, prepping dinner, etc.
  • 6/21 National Yard Games Day – Yes to yard games! What are some of your favorites? One of mine is giant Jenga!
  • 6/21 National Seashell Day – The ocean leaves such beautiful gifts on the shoreline, and shelling is definitely my favorite pastime. If you are a far distance from shells, Amazon has fun kits that are super for an afternoon of shell creativity.
  • 6/25 National Leon Day – This Day is for the early birds who like to begin shopping early, as it is the sixth month mark to Christmas Day. (Leon is Noel spelled backwards, by the way.) Early shopping is not for me, but it is a great time to get started on those homemade holiday crafts!
  • 6/27 National Bingo Day – Everybody loves Bingo! Change it up for summer with car ride bingo – great for summer road trips, or just running errands around town. Plus, it gets kids off screens!

June Holidays – Week 5

  • 6/29 International Mud Day – Do today’s kids even know what mud is? Let them get dirty for a day!
  • 6/30 National Social Media Day – Love it, or hate it – social media has vastly changed our lives and brings people together, which is worth celebrating.

June Birthdays

Birthdays are special and worth celebrating, even when it’s for someone who lived long ago. I love the Who Was series, and the Lives Of series to learn more about a notable person, and of course the local library! Who are you most interested in learning more about? Will the summer season ignite your love for the sea like Jaques Cousteau? Perhaps you will read a biography of a famous person over the summer. I know I’ll be celebrating another trip around the sun with my mama’s delicious chocolate cake!

That’s a wrap for June Holidays to Celebrate! I hope this adds a colorful handful of confetti to your homeschooling day. I love to hear from my readers! Which days are you planning to celebrate? Don’t forget to grab the free holiday planning printable half way down my home page for a limited time!

I love to share things from other homeschool bloggers, so if you’ve written something yourself or come across something that would be beneficial to this holiday series, let me know!
