June Holidays to Celebrate
Updated May 28, 2026
It’s summer, summer, summer time! (Yes—go ahead and sing it… Will Smith style!)
I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to unfinished projects finally getting attention, books I’ve been meaning to read getting opened, and days that feel a little looser, a little lighter, and a lot more fun… well, everything except the North Carolina humidity (which deserves its own warning label).
June is officially here, and it’s packed with reasons to Celebrate Every Day! From quirky national days to meaningful little moments, there’s something for everyone. It’s the perfect way to turn “I’m bored” into “What’s next?” while sneaking in learning, curiosity, and creativity along the way—keeping minds active and summer slide firmly in check.

Below are plenty of ideas to pair with the June holidays and celebrations list. Pick one or two each week, or dive into several! They’re perfect for mini summer unit studies, boredom busters, or adding to an activity jar. Cue the confetti—it’s time to celebrate!

June Holidays – Week 1
- 6/1 National Pen Pal Day – There’s something charmingly nostalgic about receiving a letter these days. A few years ago, I purchased a Letters From Afar subscription for my daughter, and honestly, I loved them just as much as she did! We enjoyed reading the letters together and even used them as a fun homeschool supplement. Best of all? There’s no pressure to write back!
- 6/2 National Rocky Road Day – Make no bake rocky road treats, then learn how the flavor was created during the Great Depression to help “rocky” times feel a little sweeter.
- 6/3 National Egg Day – Try an egg drop STEM challenge, learn fun egg facts, or test how many ways you can cook an egg.
- 6/4 National Cheese Day – Host a family taste test with different cheeses and map where they come from around the world.
- 6/5 National Hot Air Balloon Day – Summer is the perfect time to jump into a classic! Around the World in Eighty Days is a fun adventure that pairs perfectly with National Hot Air Balloon Day. Read a chapter together, map the journey, or watch the movie—especially since National Movie Night is coming up next week!
- 6/6 National Trails Day – Celebrate by hitting a local trail, planning a nature scavenger hunt, or simply taking a walk outdoors. Need ideas for what to bring? My post 12 Things I Always Carry on a Nature Walk has all my favorite trail-day essentials!
June Holidays – Week 2
- 6/7 June Bug Day — Head outside after sunset and see if you can spot a few June bugs! Learn why these summertime insects are attracted to light and how they got their name.
- 6/8 World Oceans Day – I am fortunate to live just an hour from the Atlantic ocean, and it is my favorite place to be! I stumbled across this fantastic resource while writing this post. It’s called Carolina Ocean Studies, and they have many learning programs in place for homeschool families. If you have plans to visit the beautiful Carolina coast, check it out! If you’re landlocked, then dive into ocean learning with a documentary, beach-themed sensory bin, the library, or my PaperPie store!
- 6/9 National Meal Prep Day – A big game changer for me in the kitchen this past year has been Plan to Eat. Have you tried it yet? It helps me stay organized by storing recipes, planning meals, and even creating grocery lists automatically. If meal planning feels overwhelming, this might be your new best friend! Plus, you can get 20% off the subscription with my link if you end up loving it as much as I do.
- 6/10 National Ballpoint Pen Day – “The ballpoint pen was the equivalent of today’s smartphone” – It’s true! Check out this article on the history of the ballpoint – you’ll never look at a cheap ballpoint the same way!
- 6/11 National Say Hi Day – Brighten someone’s day with a simple hello, homemade card, or kind note to a neighbor, friend, or family member.
- 6/12 National Movie Night – Have you ever thought of setting up your very own neighborhood movie night? It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. My friend over at Fields of Daisies has a terrific blog post on how to do it!
- 6/13 National Dragonfly Day – Learn about these fascinating insects, visit a pond or nature trail, or create colorful dragonfly crafts.

June Holidays – Week 3
- 6/14 National Flag Day – Did you know there are 21 days between Flag Day and Independence Day? I didn’t either! Homegrown Learners has 21 fabulous ideas for celebrating this often-overlooked holiday and making the countdown to the Fourth of July even more fun.
- 6/15 National Megalodon Day – For a fun summer activity, make your own megalodon tooth! Or, if you’re near eastern North Carolina, plan a visit to Aurora Fossil Museum. It’s a hidden gem with an impressive collection of shark teeth—and you can even dig for fossils yourself. Best of all? It’s completely free!
- 6/16 World Sea Turtle Day – Another eastern NC treasure is the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle and Rescue Rehabilitation Center. (Ya’ll just need to plan your summer vacation to eastern NC – I’d love to meet up for lunch!) This is a place I have not visited, as they were closed for quite some time during Covid. Just be sure to reserve a ticket before planning to go, as it is a popular place.
- 6/17 World Tessellation Day – Have you ever tried making a tessellation? I’ve only experimented with tessellation coloring books before, but these animal templates look like such a fun way to try something new this summer. It’s also a creative way to sneak a little geometry into summer learning!
- 6/18 National Go Fishing Day – Never miss the opportunity to take a kid fishing! No fishing spot—or fishing license? No problem. Cut fish shapes from construction paper, add paperclips, then make a simple fishing pole with a stick, string, and magnet. You can assign point values or write math problems and review questions on the fish to turn it into a fun DIY learning game!
- 6/19 National Flip-Flop Day – Did you know flip-flops have been around for thousands of years? Spend a little time learning about the history of this classic summer footwear and how different versions have been worn around the world for centuries.
- 6/20 International Tennis Day – My kids both learned the basics of tennis during our homeschool years, and their coach once said something that really stuck with me: he loved tennis because it’s one of the few sports you can enjoy for a lifetime. You don’t need a full team, and age doesn’t limit you the same way it can with other sports. Honestly, it made perfect sense—and I’ve never forgotten it.
June Holidays – Week 4
- 6/21 National Seashell Day – Gather seashells, learn how they’re formed, or create simple coastal crafts inspired by your favorite beach finds. No beach, no problem! Amazon has cool shell kits that are fun for an afternoon of shell creativity.
- 6/22 World Rainforest Day — Explore the layers of the rainforest, learn about endangered animals, or make a colorful rainforest-inspired art project.
- 6/23 Pink Flamingo Day — Learn fun flamingo facts, host a pink-themed day, or make a quirky lawn flamingo craft just for fun.
- 6/24 National Upcycling Day — Turn old jars, cardboard boxes, or worn-out T-shirts into something new and useful. It’s a creative way to teach sustainability while having fun.
- 6/25 National Leon Day – This Day is for the early birds who like to begin shopping early, as it is the sixth month mark to Christmas Day. (Leon is Noel spelled backwards, by the way.) Early shopping is not for me, but it is a great time to celebrate with a summer Christmas movie night, holiday crafts, or frozen hot chocolate.
- 6/26 National Coconut Day — Try coconut recipes, or enjoy a tropical-themed afternoon at home.
- 6/27 National Bingo Day – Everybody loves Bingo! Create your own custom bingo cards with summer activities, books, chores, or learning review for a fun family game night.

June Holidays – Week 5
- 6/28 National Paul Bunyan Day — Dive into American folklore by reading stories about Paul Bunyan and his giant blue ox, Babe. Then create your own tall tale filled with wildly exaggerated adventures!
- 6/29 International Mud Day – Embrace the mess! Head outside for sensory play and good old-fashioned backyard fun.
- 6/30 National Meteor Day — Learn about meteors, meteorites, and shooting stars, then end the day with a little backyard stargazing if the skies are clear.
June Birthdays
Birthdays are always worth celebrating—even when they belong to someone who lived long ago. Summer is a great time to dive into biographies and learn more about notable people throughout history. I’ve always loved the Who Was…? series, the Lives Of books, and, of course, wandering the local library shelves for inspiration. Who would you love to learn more about this summer? Maybe the season will spark an interest in ocean exploration like Jacques Cousteau, or inspire a deep dive into the life of someone completely new to you. As for me, I’ll happily be celebrating another trip around the sun with my mama’s delicious chocolate cake!

That’s a wrap for June Holidays to Celebrate! I hope this adds a colorful handful of confetti to your homeschooling day. Whether you celebrate one day or several, these quirky holidays make it easy to add joy and meaningful learning without extra stress. To make planning simple, I’ve created a year-long printable planning packet that you can grab in my shop—perfect for mapping out which days you want to celebrate and how you’ll use them. Less planning, more confetti.
