Mr. D Consumer Math Review

Relatable. Relevant. Real Life.

I went through an entire school year without hearing, “what am I ever going to use this for?’ I also went through an entire school year without staying up late watching YouTube videos to figure out a math concept to in turn, attempt to reteach it to my kid. Want to know what else? I have finally found a math curriculum that I can confidently recommend to everyone.

Spotlight on Learning Wrap-Ups

The year was 1980 something. My 4th grade teacher would sit on a stool with a ticking stopwatch in her hand, and a gleam in her eye. Every student in the class would come up one by one to recite math facts, or times tables as they were called back then. The stakes were high. Get them all correct, get a construction paper Pac-Man to cover up the ghost. Miss just one, and the ghost remained on a chart with your name next to it, for all to see. Oh the pressure!

Putting the Fun in Homeschooling, Something to Celebrate

Make Math Fun with Pi! (or pie)

Updated from a post I wrote in March of 2019.

I wish all math was as much fun as Pi! Take a break from the norm, and celebrate Pi Day with these fun activities! Oh, and don’t forget the pie (I saved the best for last)!

Pi Day is a day we have enjoyed over the years with a small group of friends, as well as at home by ourselves. I must say, the more the merrier for the “pies” part anyway. I’ll miss our pie buffet this year, but it’s still always a treat to do something different from our regular math routine. I have scoured Pinterest and Google for fun things to celebrate the special day. Most of these activities are no mess, require minimal prep, and have been tried among multiple ages!

A+ Interactive Math Review

Math – a necessary subject that can make your homeschool experience a delight, or it can make you want to throw in the towel! I’ve seen smiles of delight and tears of despair (mostly my despair) in our 12 years of homeschooling. Thankfully there are many products available to teach my least favorite subject so I don’t have to! I’m excited to tell you about one I had the chance to review recently, A+ Interactive Math.
